Prerequisite: Successful completion of Explode the Code books 1, 2, 3 or ready to read “The rosebud begins to open at sunrise.”
Textbook: Explode the Code books 4, 5, 6 (2nd edition) www.Rainbowresource.com or www.Christianbook.com
Materials: Composition notebook, 3×5 cards, pencil
Supply Fee: $20 per year
Length: 1 hour Class
Class Description: This class is a continuation of Phonics and Spelling 1 or for those students who are ready for more challenging phonics instruction. Using the Orton-Gillingham method, we will learn syllables, compound words, suffixes, vowel digraphs, ending sounds, and consonant blends. A variety of hands-on activities and games will be used to reinforce each phonics rule.
Each class will consist of a new lesson, a hands-on activity, grammar, a writing component and time in the workbook. We will move from learning how to form a complete sentence to writing different types of paragraphs by the end of the year!
