Prerequisite: Students need to be able to recognize all 26 letters and their sounds. Any student that needs to stay in the class is welcome!
Course Description: This is a beginning phonics, reading, writing, and spelling course. Explode the Code is a researched-based, multi-sensory, Orton-Gillingham program that builds essential literacy skills through direct, systematic, phonics instruction. It provides a comprehensive overview of phonological awareness, decoding, vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, and spelling. Students will gain the skills they need to read words, phrases, sentences, and stories on their own.
In class, we will have fun practicing spelling and reading with hands-on activities and games! I will also be making copies from Carson Dellosa’s Interactive Notebook for Language Arts and Word Study, so every student will need a composition notebook. At the end of the year, everyone will go home with a notebook full of phonics concepts they have learned!

Book 2 – Consonant blends and short vowels
Book 3 – Silent e, digraphs, and vowel digraphs
