Required Course Textbooks: A modern Bible translation (ESV, CSB, NIV, NASB), Bible Overview published by Rose Publishing.
A recommended source for further study, but not required: Old Testament Survey 2nd edition written by Paul House and Eric Mitchell. This is a more in-depth look at the Old Testament. This is a good resource both for the class and for their personal life as they continue to read the Old Testament.
Course Description: This course offers a comprehensive survey of the Old Testament, exploring its historical, cultural, and literary aspects. Through a combination of lectures, discussions, Bible readings, and supplemental resources, students will gain a deeper understanding of the major themes, people, and events in the Old Testament, and their relevance to their life and society. Students will be required to read the entire Old Testament throughout the course.
About me: Hello! My name is Alec Auwen, and I am the Minister of students and families at First Baptist Church Midwest City. I graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University in 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies and Theology. I am currently enrolled at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary where I am getting my Masters. In addition to my education, I served as the youth minister at Eastwood Baptist church for 2 years before I got hired at FBC MWC. I am married and my wife works at Oklahoma Heart Hospital on the north side of OKC. We have two kittens (about 8- months-old) named Thumper and Gravy and we LOVE them. Super excited to see you all in the fall!!!
