ECHO Late American History
Teacher: Ed Nace
Ages: 8th through 12th
Tuition: $35/month
Copy Fees: $20 once
Books: In addition, throughout the year I will assign up to eight novels relating to the time period we are in. You can buy them used or new, or find them at the library, Kindle, or any way you want.
Course: The history of the U.S.A. is full-steam-ahead by the 1850s. States are forming, the Westward Expansion is full of story and chaos, and tensions between different factions are starting to boil over. We will cover that tension, the resulting Civil War, the Wild West, the Spanish-American War and Global Expansionism, the Industrialists, innovations, and inventions that now shape our world, the Two World Wars, the Post-War Consensus and Civil Rights, 9/11 and the GWOT, and end at the present day.
We will especially linger on the role of Christianity and its influence (or not) in each situation. I hope for students to walk away with plenty of historical figures to look up to, some to remember as cautionary tales, and a hope and direction for their future.
May they become a joyful, confident generation faithful disciples of the Lord Jesus, just like many culture-building Americans before them!
Homework: There will be reading assignments each week, with light informal writing assignments for them to respond to what they learned.
