High School Marine Biology
Teacher: David Cartwright, [email protected]
Tuition: $35 per month, $40 class fee. Fee covers dissection specimens, lab equipment, and miscellaneous equipment.
Objectives: In this course, we will explore various parts of the marine ecosystem, studying oceanography, currents, hydroplate theory, and plate tectonics, various groups of marine animals such as cephalopods and cnidarians, and the stewardship of our natural and living resources. This course will be a lab science: labs will consist of several dissections (shark, fish, crayfish, clam, sea star), some microscope work, and research presentations, short videos, etc…
Supplies needed: Every student should bring a 3-ring binder and/or some notebook paper to take notes, as well as the textbook to class each week.
Textbook: “Exploring Creation with Marine Biology” from Apologia. ISBN-10:1932012583 ISBN-13: 978-1932012583. I have several textbooks available if you
need one.
Course work: Each chapter will take about 2-4 hours of work spread out over one or two weeks. The class is significantly less work than Biology, and can be taken before Biology… or concurrently with a more difficult class like Chemistry or Anatomy.
