Life Science with Dad
Instructor: Chase Leehan
Grades: 6th - 8th
Course Fee: $35 per month ($40 per semester lab/supply fee)
Textbook: TBD (To be determined)
Description: Get ready to explore the natural world with a focus on active, hands-on learning! Life Science with Dad is designed for students who want to get their hands dirty and experience science in action. This course approaches Life Science from a
Christian worldview, focusing on exploring God's creation and recognizing the complexity of Intelligent Design in all living things.
As a teacher with a background in microbiology, I aim to foster a genuine passion for science by bridging the gap between scientific discovery and faith. This class will cover a general overview of Life Science, including cells, genetics, the human body, and ecology.
Class Structure: Classes meet once a week for one hour. The structure is flexible, designed to maximize hands-on application, experiments, and dissection. To truly appreciate God's design, we will prioritize getting outdoors, conducting field studies, and
potentially planning collaborative traveling field trips with other ECHO science classes.
Homework and Accountability: To maximize our in-person lab time, students will be required to complete homework to prepare for the weekly activity. Homework will consist of reading, watching instructional videos, or completing diagrams to ensure students
arrive ready to participate. Approximately 30 minutes of work per weekday (2.5 hours per week) is expected.
Supplies: Students will need a 1.5” binder for notes and handouts.
