Course Description: This introductory Spanish course will focus on interactive and fun language activities. I will use Classical TPR, a method based on the teaching of the language through a systematic instruction of vocabulary in a highly comprehensible, personalized and contextualized manner that leads to increased student engagement. Student will be reading storytelling-like scenarios during this classical TPR phase, acting out and answering questions to stories from the very beginning. This course will be guiding the students toward functional communicative proficiency in Spanish.
Text: I will hand out the vocabulary list to be used all year. This vocabulary list enabled students to know exactly what is going on in class. The words are grouped by week. Students will know what we are going to do for each week and what to study. The first semester, I wrote a story in 10 episodes where students will become familiar with basic Spanish vocabulary as numbers, days of the week, months of the year, weather, time, and certain action verbs to help them understand sentences while reading in the target language. The second semester is a story where students will apply part of the vocabulary already taught plus some new ones to read a story about a girl named Isabella and her adventures.
Homework: Will be assigned in each class section where students need to complete a questionnaire related to the story reading in class.
