Introduction to Sociology

Course Description: This course focuses on how the groups, or social structures, that one belongs to have a profound influence on the way one thinks, feels, and acts. Major themes include: deviance, crime and social control; social stratification, race and ethnic stratification; gender and society; aging; and marriage and family, among others. We will utilize lecture, classroom discussion and reflection questions, quizzes and end of the year project in class to promote learning. Work assigned for the week will include reading, writing and internet research.
Instructor Background: Hello! I am a married homeschooling mom of 3. We are in our 12th year of homeschooling and have graduated two wonderful daughters. I am also a registered nurse and continue to maintain my license. This will be my third year teaching sociology in a co-op setting. I enjoy the study of sociology and infusing a Christian perspective into my teaching and class discussions.
