This writing class is a for 6th - 8th graders (6th graders please check the elementary school writing description to pick the best fit).
The beginning of the year will start with reviewing sentences. Then, the first semester will focus on using middle school aged prompts to build their one paragraph writing skills into an organized five paragraph essay. We will utilize some grammar lessons as needed, with the focus being on writing.
The second semester will continue to build their confidence using five paragraphs to complete an informative (how-to),
narrative, and an opinion essays. Skills introduced include proofreading and editing their essays with guidance.
The goal is to confidently write an essay utilizing organization tools through engaging topics.
Some homework is required. Approx. 1-2 hours weekly. All work must be original (no AI) and shown through their prep work that will be initiated in class.
The final preferred essay method is typed. However, if this isn’t possible for your student please email me and written will be accepted. Formats will be given out, shown in class, and emailed to parents.
All classroom news and homework will be emailed on Tuesday.
